Since Gertz founded Zorro Productions in 1977, he has been responsible for four Zorro motion pictures including “Zorro, the Gay Blade” (1982), “The Mask of Zorro” (1998), and “The Legend of Zorro” (2005), the two last ones starring Antonio Banderas and Catherine Zeta Jones. Also under his tenure, nine different ZORRO TV series and made for TV movies have been produced, as well as some fifteen different ZORRO stage productions. Zorro Productions has executed over a thousand license agreements in such diverse areas as book and comic publishing, theme parks, commercial endorsements, apparel, food products, computer games and toys. Zorro Productions holds hundreds of copyrights and over 1300 registered trademarks in the property of ZORRO. In 2005, together with world renowned author, Isabel Allende, Gertz released a novel about the genesis of ZORRO. It hit the NY Times bestseller list has been published in some 30 languages, and is the subject of a movie in development at Columbia Pictures. Allende and Gertz continue to work together as producers of the stage musical version of ZORRO.
