Disney

Out of the night, when the full moon is bright, comes a horseman known as Zorro.
This bold renegade carves a Z with his blade, a Z that stands for Zorro.

Zorro, the fox so cunning and free.
Zorro, who makes the sign of the Z.

Rearing on his black stallion against a lightning sky, the words echoed,

Zorro . . . Zorro . . . Zorro . . .

These lyrics are recalled even today by fans of the Disney Zorro television series that aired from 1957 - 1959. It was a regular Thursday night event in many homes, with channels tuned to ABC at 7:30. More than forty years later, Zorro still makes the sign of the Z on the Disney channel. However, today, the masked hero rears on his black stallion in the colorized version rather than it's original black and white.

The series starred the tall, dark and handsome Guy Williams as Diego/Zorro. His brilliant smile, natural athleticism and fencing ability made him an instant hit in the choice role. Playing opposite Williams as his nemesis, Captain Monastario, was Britt Lomond, a championship fencer and experienced actor. The cast was rounded out by Henry Calvin as Sergeant Garcia and Gene Sheldon as Zorro's aid, the mute Bernardo.
